Jewellery trends are taking us back to the 60s

Jewellery trends are ready to change our auras in the season embracing 60s. Vogue Gioiello reveals the era’s most frequented designs and gems through the icons of the period.

Pearl
Holly Golightly,  Audrey Hepburn’s character in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s is seen with pearls hanging on her back on the legendary seen in front of the windows. Jackie Kennedy is renowned with her passion for pearls and would choose them while considering the collar shapes of her clothing and wear them both day and night. Grace Kelly on the other hand has been photographed with pearls many times, even on the beach. Pearls are such a classic item that sometimes seem conservative but they are timeless and always look chic and sophisticated.

Charms
Charm bracelets that symbolize 60’s freedom and peace themes were must-haves of the era. They tell life stories that are carried from generation to generation through sentimental journeys. Charms are able to transform a piece of jewellery in to a unique item. They protect and bring luck to whomever wears them. We know that Marlene Dietrich always travelled with her charm bracelets. Sophia Loren and Jackie Kennedy wore their charms with precious gemstones just like Coco Chanel who used to mix and match her costume jewellery with little charms such as antique gold coins or seals that Granduke Dimitri Pavlovich gave her.

Flower power
Art Nouveau in jewellery began with petals first, then came the flowers. 3D flowers which were considered a challenge in the design world came back with Victoire de Castellane’s collection for Dior and Oliver Weber’s Bouton de Roses. 60s flower power is still trendy with pieces inspired from gardens.
