Raisa &Vanessa gained a lot of popularity in the fashion world with their first catwalk Bohemian Carnival would like to realize at least 50 % of their dreams before they are 30. The sisters say they used to fight a lot when they were small, but today only argue about their designs.
Raisa and Vanessa planned to study female fashion at the college and submitted their portfolios to their professor at the end of the semester. They then found themselves in the most difficult department of the university; the Drama Costumes Design Department.
What did you get out of studying drama costume design? We do not have limits in our dreams and studying in this department allowed us to be limitless in fashion. As this department is the hardest one in the school, we hesitated a lot at first, but then while going to school loved it. You are given a story and expected to create characters that will fit this story and prepare both the clothes and the set for this story. There is no end to creativity. Here you learn to design for men, women and children so there are no limits. At school you learn everything, realizing your dream without planning cutting, sewing etc. How did you decide to establish your own atelier? Our first task was to design bags and belts for our school`s polo team in Dubai. Unfortunately, Vanessa had a serious accident at that time which prevented us from dealing with this any further. Then we tried a new thing by giving the swimsuits we designed for ourselves to Midnight Express and Blender. At the start of winter we did the Gizia styling. Now our collections are sold at Blender and a boutique called Boss Sisters in Nisantasi. We sell new products every week. And of course in our atelier we give one to one support to our special customers in terms of design or styling. We also do Hello! Magazine cover shoot styling and totally enjoy it.
How does it feel to work with a star like Ajda?Ms Ajda has such a light that whatever she wears suits her and looks totally different on her. It is fun and easy to work with her. We work with Ms Ajda for design and styling. We did the whole stage for her, the clothes for her dancers, orchestra and the clothes she wore in her video clips are also our designs. We did the styling of the long black guipure jacket, leather studded jacket and the white dress in her video clip.
Do you work with other stars too?We styled a singer in Dubai and we design costumes for Ziynet Sali. On the Kral TV Awards night we designed for Ziynet Sali and Mercan. We also designed stage clothes for Kenan Dogulu this summer.
What is your dream for your brand? All we dream of is to become a global brand loved and known abroad. As well as this we want to feature in a musical in London with the costumes designed by Raisa&Vanessa. This catwalk is going to be a real show. How would you describe 2011-12 A/W season Raisa & Vanessa designs? We prepared a collection resembling a royal touch. This season we designed shoes, boots, bags and luggage. What could be counted as our signature pieces are the flared trousers. They are the indispensable pieces of our collection. We design two different collections, one of them is more casual, the other more haute couture. What really inspires us is the 1980s and the hippie trend.
